► Personality:

A timid soul with fear as a tailing companion - not because he is fearsome, but because he seems to be always afraid even at peaceful times. He is more than eager to have a friend but his desire to reach out is usually overwhelmed by his fear of being hurt or betrayed in some way. He sees everyone as stronger and more capable than him and therefore would only take menial tasks, leaving the tougher job to those who are worthy. He doesn’t like standing out and would prefer to remain unnoticed.

► Race: Ember Ethril

► Race Information:

Ethril is a peculiar race that is born out of pure concentrated Ether. The element the pure Ether touches would determine the variety of Ethril that would be created. The only exception however, is when an Ethril’s cause of death is of their opposing nature, the Ethril will never be reincarnated and the cycle is lost forever. These creatures have no reproductive organs even if they take form of a humanoid shape. They can only be reborn to a new identity, but in every incarnation a minute portion of Ether is lost in the process. This results into weaker Ethrils in every newer generation. There is no known method of creating new Ethrils, but they are known to age very slowly and average lifespans take 200-300 years. As of current, the known Ethril population is 377 since the emergence of the four Aevi and their numbers continue to dwindle.  

An Ember Ethril is a variety of the Ethril with fire as their main element. Ember Ethrils are creatures that resemble dark-skinned humans with visible magma veins etched on their skin. Even in their human-like form, they have body temperatures that would reach 300-400C.

Upon triggering certain emotions, Ember Ethrils release black scorching magma from their pores that comes in an amorphous shape that might contain limbs or mouth with one red eye. The black magma is not to be treated as  a separate entity, instead it is a part of the Ethril itself. The black magma might seem like an autonomous creature but in reality it works in accordance to the Ethril’s emotion and acts as an extra limb.

► History:

A hundred and fifty-four years ago, A lone Cyclone Ethril met their untimely end in Tenskwatawa when a volcanic outbreak occurred while he was travelling from Alemayehu to Mergo’tur. A death of an Ethril brings fruit of life to a new Ethril by blessing an element with the Ether they have contained in their lifetime.  Upon the Cyclone Ethril’s death by being engulfed in molting lava, an Ember Ethril was born.

An Ethril is born in a state of tabula rasa - blank and with no knowledge retained from the previous life cycle. It is considered lucky if the death occurred in the presence of fellow Ethrils, as they would help the other adapt into the world and teach them the ways of proper living. But this Ember Ethril woke up to a mass grave of dead bodies. With no one to help him, he wandered off on his own.

After his birth, everything in his life was eventful for him as he would learn something new! Months passed and he would learn the basics of survival, although still quite illiterate after being isolated from civilization. His first chance of meeting a lot of people would be a very unfortunate incident in Mergo’tur, where he found a merchant being bullied into paying all of his earnings to tax. Though the Ember Ethril didn’t grasp the situation well, he could tell it was unpleasant. And soon, he acted very defensive and jumpy as he wandered around the city. He would hear some of the folks calling him names, and thought it was his name- -- thus he named himself “Skerdi”. After a couple of days evading the guards, he found himself unable to stay in this city if he wanted to live longer. Without hesitation, he left the city and travelled to look for  a place to settle where he couldn’t be bothered.

And so up to this day, he settles to live a meager life in Exire than to mingle with fearsome civilians of Mergo’tur and Quidel. The city full of people is just too intimidating!

► Abilities

♦ Black Magma - Used for offensive and defensive purposes (in Skerdi’s case, mostly defensive). The black magma can flow freely into any shape the Ethril would desire. It can serve as an extra armor or a medium sized shield/barrier for defensive purposes. For offense, it could simply splash at an enemy to burn and they can be formed into sharply pointed spears for stabbing. (With low dexterity and hardly any desire for combat, he is most likely to just wave the pointed spears/projectiles aimlessly.)

► Trivia:

• The emotion that triggers his transformation is fear. The common emotional triggers for most Ember Ethrils are anger, love, and fear. The transformation can only be triggered by one emotion and it varies per Ethril.

• Ethrils don’t have gender but he sees himself as male.

• Skerdi named the black magma as ‘Pierre’—his only trusted friend. Albeit most Ember Ethrils wouldn’t do this as they are aware that the black magma is part of their body.

• He is always afraid of something and thus there was no instance ever known of him losing Pierre by his side.

• Other Ethril varieties exist in other continents but the Cyclone Ethril(wind element) is the rarest type as they are only born when an Ethril dies of a cyclone incident.

• Even if they are born out of Ether, Ethrils who can control Ether efficiently for magic are very very rare. But when they do, they are formidable opponents.
